This is Emerald Pipe Band blog. This blog was created to replace the Pipe Sergeants blog which until recently was on our website. We felt we would reach a larger audience with blogspot
The Emerald Pipe Band was started in 2004 by The Luton Irish Forum. It has been funded by charity, Donations and the dedicated Band members themselves. The website is located at www.theemeraldpipeband.net.tc.
Our internet presence is based around free services so if you have any ideas on that drop us a line at emeraldpipeband@googlemail.com If you would like to help us in a small and inexpensive way please create a link to our website above or to this blog.
Thankyou.

What a shame.
It seems this Carnival was never meant to be. From the very start we were plagued by problems. First of all was the float. We arrived at the council depot to pick up the lorry that was to play host to decorations and ourselves on the day but when we finally got the keys for it we discovered that our float was wedged in between a wall and some person’s truck. Nobody knew whose truck it was so we had to use the spare one that wasn’t suited for our needs, For starters you couldn’t open the back door without the ramp down and we couldn’t do that because of Health and Safety.
Anyway, we took it better that then nothing and besides what did we expect for free? After spending 10 minutes trying to catch up the convoy headed for the generators we managed to get at the front of it much to the dismay of those within and behind the truck my father was driving and his ability lacks somewhat.
We arrived at another depot in Hitchen to pick up a generator and guess what, there were no clips to hold the generator in place. If we turned a corner too sharply we would’ve had a generator in the middle of the road. After picking up some over priced chips we made it back to the depot and left the truck there over night.
Next morning we jumped back in the tuck and drove it to Wigmore. It was there that it would be decorated. This went smoothly but what happened next was the real kick in the teeth. Rain. Heavy Rain. The carnival was called off and what’s more is the fact that we had to disassemble the float in this rain. It was miserably cold but at least at the end of it we got to go home and curl back up in bed.
Perhaps they’ll reschedule it if so then Let the Carnival Commence (in good weather with the right truck this time).

Thank God for that.
So, St Patricks day has been and gone. After a rather hectic 3 months of constant rehearsals, arguments and errors we pulled it together. It's at this point I feel that everyone below should be congratulated and thanked.
The Members of the Emerald Pipe Band
Natasha and Leanne for carrying our new Banner
Alex Peters and Rory MacEwan for their support and patience in teaching us all
Maclachlans, Devon Road Luton. For their speedy and swift service without whom everything
would have been a lot more difficult
The local press for the coverage we were given
The Luton Irish Forum for giving us a place to meet and practice.
Thank-you to you all. Your help has been invaluable.

Not Long Now
It's only 6 more days until the debut of The Emerald Pipe Band on St. Patricks day. This will be happening at Market Hill just outside of the Mall Arndale.
I, on behalf of the entire band would like to thank all those who up until this point have supported our cause through encouragement. During a practice outside the Kathleen Connolly house for St. Patricks day we were notice by the organisers of the annual beer festival and have been booked for a performance in February '08.
Enjoy St. Patricks day '07
